Great Blue Heron Great Blue Heron

Size - 50-54 inches long
Habitat - Marshes, lakes, rivers, and shores.
Nesting - The nest is a platform of sticks in bushes or trees up to 100 feet above the ground, or on rocks or cliffs. Usually nests in colonies.
Eggs - 3 to 7, pale blue or greenish. Incubation about 28 days, by both parents. Young leave the nest about 8 weeks after hatching.
Food - Fish, frogs, snakes, and small animals.
Bald Eagle

Size - 35-40 inches long. Wingspan to 8 feet.
Habitat - Rivers, lakes, and sea coasts.
Nesting - The nest is a very large heap of sticks 10-150 feet above the ground in a tree, usually near the water.
Eggs - 1 to 3, dull white. Incubation about 35 days, by both parents. Young leave the nest in 10 weeks after hatching.
Food - Mainly fish, often stolen from osprey; also muskrats, other small mammals, water birds, and carrion.

Red-tailed Hawk Red-tailed Hawk

Size - 19-26 inches long. Wing span 4 1/2 feet.
Habitat - Plains, deserts, farmlands, and open woodlands.
Nesting - The nest is a solid mass of sticks and twigs about 15 to 70 feet above the ground in a tree.
Eggs - 1 to 5, white, sparsely marked with brown. Incubation 28 to 32 days. Young leave the nest 45 days after hatching.
Food - Mainly voles and other mammals; also birds and large insects.
Great Egret

Size - 37-41 inches long.
Habitat - Marshes, lakes, lagoons, wooded swamps, and streams.
Nesting - The nest is a platform of sticks in a bush or tree about 20 to 40 feet above the ground or water.
Eggs - 1 to 6, pale blue or greenish. Incubation 23 to 26 days. Young leave the nest 6 to 7 weeks after hatching. Nests in colonies.
Food - Fish, frogs, water snakes, and insects.
