White Pelican American White Pelican

Size - 50 to 70 inches long
Habitat - Marshes, lakes, and coastal lagoons.
Nesting - The nest is a large mound of soil and plant debris on an island or in a marsh.
Eggs - 1 to 6, dull white. Incubation about 5 weeks, by both parents. Young leave the nest four weeks after hatching.
Food - Fish, caught as bird swims along the surface.
Double-crested Cormorant

Size - 29 to 36 inches long
Habitat - Seacoasts, harbors, lakes, and wooded swamps where there are plenty of fish.
Nesting - The nest is a mass of sticks or seaweed on a rock ledge or in a tree about 50' up from the ground. Incubation about 25 days, by both parents. Young leave the nest five or six weeks after hatching; independent at ten weeks. Nests in colonies.
Food - Fish and some crustaceans.
Cormorant
Thrush Hermit Thrush

Size - 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 inches long.
Habitat - Forests, bogs, and pine barrens.
Nesting - The nest is a cup of twigs, sprips of bark, grass, and moss, concealed on the ground or in a tree about 2 to 5' high.
Eggs - 3 to 6, pale blue, unmarked or dotted with brown. Incubation 13 days, by female. Young leave the nest 12 days after hatching.
Food - Insects, spiders, earthworms, and fruit.
Common Grackle

Size - 10 to 12 inches long.
Habitat - Groves, towns, and farmland.
Nesting - The nest is a sturdy cup of twigs, grass, stems, and sometimes mud, in a tree about 45' above the ground.
Eggs - 4 to 7, bluish or pinkish, scrawled and blotched with brown. Incubation 14 days, by female only. Young leave the nest 18 to 20 days after hatching.
Food - Insects, small fish, seeds, grain, salamanders, eggs, and young of other birds.
