Blue-winged Teal
Size - 14 to 16 inches long Habitat - Marshes and shallow ponds. Nesting - The nest is a down lined hollow of grass, hidden in vegetation near water. Eggs - 6 to 15, white or cream colored. Incubation about 24 days, by female. Young leave the nest soon after hatching; first fight at six weeks. Food - Seeds, aquatic plants, snails, and insects. |

Size - 25 to 29 inches long Habitat - Marshes and ponds. Nesting - The nest is a down-lined hollow of plant material. Eggs - 6 to 12, cream colored or greenish. Incubation about 26 days, by female only. Young leave the nest soon after hatching. Fly at seven weeks. Food - Small fish, crustaceans, snails, seeds, and insects. |

Size - 18 to 23 inches long. Habitat - Lakes, ponds, and marshes. Nesting - The nest is a hollow lined with grass and a lot of down, in the tall weeds, often some distance from the water. Eggs - 6 to 12, cream colored. Incubation 25 days, by female. Young leave nest soon after hatching; fly at 7 to 8 weeks. Food - Seeds and foliage of aquatic plants as well as some insects and mollusks. |
Gadwall
Size - 19 to 23 inches long. Habitat - Ponds, lakes, and marshes. Nesting - The nest is a hollow lined with plant matter and some down, usually near water. Eggs - 7 to 15, cream colored. Incubation 25 to 28 days, by female. Young leave nest soon after hatching; fly at 7 to 9 weeks. Food - Aquatic plants and seeds as well as some insects and mollusks. |
