Tree Swallow
Size - 5 to 6 inches long Habitat - Lakes, marshes, and woods near water. Nesting - The eggs are laid in a cup of grass and feather in a woodpecker hole, another tree cavity, or birdhouse. Eggs - 4 to 7, white. Incubation 13 to 16 days. Young leave the nest after 16 to 24 days. Food - Flying insects and airborne spiders; also bayberries in winter. |

Size - 6 to 6 1/2 inches long. Habitat - Deciduous or coniferous forests; gardens and parks. Nesting - The nest is a cup of moss, bark stips, and hair, placed in bottom of a tree cavity, birdhouse, or other hole. Eggs - 5 to 8, white, speckled with brown. Incubation about 14 days, by female. Young leave the nest 18 days after hatching. Food - Insects, fruit, and seeds. |

European Starling
Size - 7 to 8 1/2 inches long. Habitat - Farms, cities, towns, and gardens. Nesting - The nest is a loose cup of twigs and grass in a woodpecker hole, natural cavity or birdhouse. Eggs - 2 to 9, pale blue, or greenish. Incubation 12 days, by both sexes. Young leave the nest 21 days after hatching. Food - Insects, spiders, worms, fruits, and seeds. |
Yellow-headed Blackbird
Size - 8 to 10 inches long. Habitat - Freshwater marshes; fields and stockyards in the winter. Nesting - The nest is a deep cup of grass and stems, woven into standing reeds 1 to 6 feet above the water. Eggs - 3 to 5, pale blush, speckled and blotched with brown and reddish brown. Incubation 13 days, by the female. Young leave the nest 9 to 12 days after hatching. Usually nests in colonies. Food - Seeds, small snails, insects, and grain. |
